The private households have been compiled by Statistics Norway (SSB) based on various registers in an attempt to identify who belongs to the same food household. This refers to individuals living in the same dwelling and sharing food expenses. Couples are identified by checking whether they are married or registered partners. To determine whether two cohabiting individuals who are not married or registered partners are in a relationship, we look at whether they have shared children, joint debt, joint property ownership, and the same move-in date. Students living away from home who are officially registered at their parents' address and are listed in the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen) registers are considered a separate household, distinct from their parents. Household figures from the LFS (Labour Force Survey) differ from the other household statistics published by Statistics Norway. Read more in the section About the statistics. Another type of household refers to households where more than two adults live together. The definition of an adult is 18 years old. This means that some of these households are simply two parents with a child aged 18 or older who still lives at home.
