Antall eiendommer før 2004 regnes som usikkert. Fra og med 2010 er grunnlaget for antall utstedte målebrev hentet i registeret Matrikkelen, og ikke fra kommunenes rapportering på KOSTRA-skjema. Dette kan bidra til at nivået på tallene endres. Hensikten med å benytte Matrikkelen er å redusere oppgavebyrden på kommunene, samt å basere statistikken på en antatt sikrere datakilde enn KOSTRA-skjemaene.
