Small decrease in operating profit

The operating profit for other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries decreased by 4.5 per cent between 2006 and 2007.

In 2007, the operating profit for other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries was NOK 22.8 billion, compared to NOK 23.9 and 17.7 billion in 2006 and 2005 respectively. The increase we had seen in the past few years has not continued.

Total equity increased by 41.9 per cent from 2006 to 2007. The share premium reserves increased by 68 per cent from 2006 to 2007 due to the good results from previous years. Total liabilities increased as well, by 52 per cent from 2006 to 2007, mainly because of short-term liabilities, which were NOK 86.1 billion in 2007 compared to NOK 51.3 billion in 2006.

Sectoral differences

The operating profit was positive for activities auxiliary to financial enterprises for all of the years between 2002 and 2007, and in 2007 was NOK 10.1 billion. For other financial enterprises, the operating profit was NOK 12.7 billion in 2007. At the end of 2007, activities auxiliary to financial enterprises had equity of NOK 79.6 billion, whereas the corresponding figure for other financial enterprises was NOK 129.2 billion. By the end of 2007, the survey comprised 891 enterprises with 8 712 employees within activities auxiliary to financial enterprises. The corresponding figures for other financial enterprises were 304 and 439 respectively.

Types of companies in this accounting statistics survey

The statistics comprise enterprises within the two institutional sectors “390 Other financial enterprises” and “490 Activities auxiliary to financial enterprises”. From sector 390, the survey comprises investment and development companies investing in financial instruments. The figures for sector 490 comprise information about companies within administration of financial markets, security broking and fund management, activities auxiliary to financial intermediation n.e.c. and activities auxiliary to insurance and pension funding.
