Fewer active members in organisations

Only 50 per cent of all Norwegians take an active part in organisations, and the number has gone down over the last years. The youngest and the oldest citizens are the least active.

The survey of level of living 2004 indicates that there are fewer active members of an organisation today than earlier. In 1997 and 2001, 57 and 55 per cent was active in an organisation, but the number decreases to 50 per cent in 2004. The youngest and the oldest are least active. Active members are those who say that they are very or somewhat active in an organisation.

Most activity in athletic clubs

One out of four Norwegians is a member of an athletic club. Of these around 20 per cent say that they are active members, thus generating most activity among Norwegian organisations.

Only 7 per cent of the citizens are members of religious organisations, but 70 per cent of these were working for free in 2004. On average, members from religious organisations, worked 55 hours for free in 2004. This is more than twice compared to members from other organisations.
