Small increase in church weddings

A total of 10 500 couples were married by the Church of Norway in 2008. The number of church weddings increased by 100 from 2007.

This means that the increase in weddings from 2006 to 2007 remains at the same level, and church weddings still remain popular. A total of 42 900 were baptised, 41 650 were confirmed and 38 800 were buried by the Church of Norway in 2008. The proportion of baptised people to births was 70 per cent. Sixty-six per cent of all 15 year-olds were confirmed in the church. A total of 93 per cent of the deceased received a church burial.
