More people baptized - fewer wedded

43 255 people were baptized, 42 587 people were confirmed and 9 600 couples were wedded in the Church of Norway during 2006. Compared with the previous year, more were baptized and confirmed, but fewer were wedded.

In 2006, baptized people as a percentage of births were 74 per cent. 67 per cent of the of 15 year-olds were confirmed. .

More than 8 000 persons resigned from the Church of Norway last year. In the last few years, the number of such resignations has increased. At the start of 2007, approximately 83 percent of the population was members in the Church of Norway.

10 per cent of all visits on a Christmas Eve service

In total, there were 6.6 million visitors at church services in the Church of Norway during 2006, close to 10 per cent of all visitors were registered on Christmas Eve.

NOK 244 million in collection

During 2006, the Church of Norway received NOK 244 million through collection, fund raising, gifts etc. On average, each member in the church participated with collection and gifts worth NOK 63.

The largest source of income for the church is from municipal subsidies. In 2006, all municipalities spent some NOK 1.9 billion for the purposes of Church of Norway, graveyards and crematoria.
