More participants at communion
A total of 29 300 services with communion were registered by the Church of Norway in 2010. Compared with the previous year, there were 400 fewer services with communion, while participants at those services increased by almost 19 000 or 2 per cent. On average, 39 communicants attended each service.
A total of more than 1.1 million participants attended the services with communion. The number of communicants increased in more than half of the dioceses. A total of 65 700 services were conducted and more than 6.1 million participants at services were registered by the Church of Norway in 2010. Compared with the previous year, there were 1 150 fewer services and almost 123 000 fewer participants. On average, 93 attended each service; the same as the year before.
Baptising and confirmation
A total of 41 100 persons were baptised, 42 000 were confirmed and 38 300 were buried by the Church of Norway in 2010. The proportion of baptised people to births was 67 per cent. Sixty-five per cent of all 15 year-olds were confirmed in the church. A total of 92 per cent of the deceased received a church burial. The number of church weddings was 9 500.
Fewer resignations
A total of 6 500 members left the Church of Norway during 2010. At year-end 2010, 78 per cent of the Norwegian population was a member of the Church of Norway.
