Higher consumption of power

Gross consumption of power was 11 568 GWh in Norway in March 2004. Compared to March last year, when the consumption was low, it increased by 8.5 per cent. The consumption in March this year is at the same level as in previous years.

In March 2004, the consumption was approximately equal to the average for last ten year, which has been 11 570 GWh. The consumption outside power-intensive manufacturing, which is dependent on the temperature, was 8 968 GWh in Mach this year. It was 8 241 in the corresponding month last year. This is an increase of 8.8 per cent. There was no large difference in the temperature in these periods. The consumption in power-intensive manufacturing was 2600 GWh in March 2004, an increase of 7.4 per cent from 2003.

Higher production of power

The production of power was 10 626 GWh in March 2004, an increase of 18.8 per cent from March last year. The production was 5 per cent below the average for the last ten years, even though it increased much from last year.

Net imports

Norway imported 1 192 GWh and exported 250 GWh in March 2004. The value of the net imports was NOK 235 million. The net imports from Sweden and Denmark was 633 GWh and 266 GWh, respectively. The rest of the net imports came from Russia and Finland.
