3.5 per cent increase in wholesale and retail trade

Preliminary figures for total labour costs in wholesale and retail trade show a 3.5 per cent increase from the fourth quarter of 2011 to the first quarter of 2012. The index showed a 3.9 per cent increase for the same period in 2011.

The index for manufacturing showed a 3.0 per cent increase in total labour costs for the first quarter, while the index for oil and gas extraction and mining showed a 10.0 per cent increase in labour costs for the same period.
