Sentence by electronic monitoring (EM)

An arrangement where unconditional sentences may be served with an ankle monitor outside of the prison facilities. Introduced in 2008 and expanded in 2014. Home detention with an ankle monitor can be used for sentences with a total duration of less than four months, or as part of a longer sentence for prisoners with up to four months remaining until their expected release on parole. EM is not included in the statistics on prison days.
