Charges

Statistics Norway can first define a charge and a charged person when the police and Prosecution authority have registered a decision with legal efficacy against a perpetrator. A person can be given the legal status ‘charged’ at various times during the investigation. Persons who have been charged at some point during the investigation, but do not have that status upon completion of the investigation, are not included in the statistics. Statistics Norway’s use of the terms is not synonymous with corresponding terms in Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
