There is an excise duty on all alcoholic beverages above 0.7% by volume of alcohol, which is imported into Norway or produced in Norway. The alcohol excise duty is divided into three groups; liquor, beer and wine. Alcoholic beverages up to 4.7% will have a higher excise duty, the higher the alcohol percentage. The excise duty is also set in order to reduce alcohol consumption, with a view to preventing health and social problems where alcohol is a direct cause.
