Employee statistics by municipality of residence, fourth quarter 1998:

More employees in all counties



The number of employees increased by 2.5 per cent from the fourth quarter of 1997 to the fourth quarter of 1998, an increase of 47,500 employees. Rogaland county had the largest increase with 3.8 per cent, while Finnmark county had the smallest increase, 0.2 per cent.

For the country as a whole there was a 2.4 per cent increase for men and a 2.6 per cent increase for women. The largest percentage increases among male employees were in Oslo and Rogaland with 3.6 per cent each, while the largest increases for female employees were in Østfold and Rogaland counties with 4.1 per cent each. For both men and women the data showed an increase in all counties.

From 1990 to 1998 the number of employees increased by 13.7 per cent. Aust-Agder county had the biggest percentage increase, a gain of 22.1 per cent. Thereafter came Rogaland with 21.5 per cent and Vest-Agder county with 16.9 per cent. We found the least growth in Hedmark county with 5.5 per cent. The data are adjusted to account for 12,000 seamen who were added to the data base starting in 1992.

For the country as a whole last year, there was an increase in the number of employees in all age groups except persons of age 67-74. The percentage increase was greatest for the age group 16-19. Finnmark and Sogn og Fjordane counties were the only counties with a decline in the number of employees in the age group 25-39. For all counties, there was an increase in the number of employees of age 40-66.

Most Women with Full-time Employment in Oslo and Finnmark
In 1998, 88.7 per cent of all male employees worked full time, i.e. 30 hours or more per week, while the corresponding figure for women was 57.3 per cent. The highest percentage of men working full time in 1998 was in Møre og Romsdal county with 90.2 per cent, while Nord-Trøndelag county had the lowest percentage with 86.9 per cent. Oslo had the highest percentage of women working full time with 75.6 per cent in 1998, and Vest-Agder had the lowest percentage with 44.7 per cent.

From 1990 to 1998 there has been an increase in all counties in the number of female employees working full time. In the last eight years Nord-Trøndelag and Vestfold counties have had the greatest increase in the percentage of women working full time. Finnmark and Oslo have had the smallest increase, but, as in 1990, they were the two counties with the highest percentage of women in full-time employment.

In the same period there has been a decline in the percentage of men working full time in all counties except Sogn og Fjordane. Finnmark and Nordland counties have had the sharpest decline, while Nord-Trøndelag and Hordaland counties have had the least decline.
