Price index for new, detached houses, 4th quarter 1997:

More expensive to build a home

After a moderate price inflation in 1996, the price of new single family homes in Norway rose 7.8 per cent from fourth quarter 1996 to fourth quarter 1997.
Compared with the bottom level in first quarter 1993 prices have risen barely 30 per cent.

The building cost index for wood single family homes rose less last year. From fourth quarter 1996 to fourth quarter 1997 the index increased 2.3 per cent. The price index for new single family homes differs from the building cost index in that it takes into account changes in productivity and profit margins.
