Traffic accidents continue to claim lives


Seventeen persons lost their lives in traffic accidents in November last year, two fewer compared to November last year. From January to November, however, the number of fatalities was up by 53 compared to the same period in 1996.
Traffic accidents claimed altogether 287 lives from January to November 1997. The average for the five-year period from 1992 to 1996 shows 260 fatalities.

Fewer pedestrians

The largest increase in the number of fatalities from 1996 to 1997 was seen among motorists, motorcyclists and passengers, with increases of 25, 16 and 15 respectively. On the other hand, 16 fewer pedestrians lost their lives in 1997, compared to January to November the year before.
