Day-care fee survey, 1st half 1997:

Fauske has cheapest day care

The fees parents pay for a place in a municipal day-care centre vary widely in Norway. The differences are the greatest for low-income families, although those with higher incomes also are experiencing that the amount they pay for day care depends on where they live. Fauske Municipality offers the cheapest day-care places in Norway.

A family with an annual gross income of NOK 375,000 pays nearly twice as much for a day-care place in Selfjord compared to Fauske, statistics from the day-care fee survey for the first half of 1997 show. The data include fees from 109 of Norway's 435 municipalities (local governments). Lillehammer is the most expensive municipality for families with an annual gross income of NOK 100,000.
