Wage growth in banking and insurance


Employees in insurance saw their wages grow by 4.5 per cent from September 1995 to September 1996, while the wages of bank employees increased 4.6 per cent. Women in insurance received a wage increase of 6.1 per cent.
The total average monthly salary for insurance employees rose from NOK 22,570 as of September 1, 1995, to NOK 23,593 the year after, an increase of NOK 1,023 or 4.5 per cent. Women in insurance increased their pay from NOK 18,855 to NOK 20,010, a 6.1 per cent rise. The average month's pay for men increased from NOK 26,001 to NOK 26,981, a 3.8 per cent improvement. Women in insurance have in other words seen their pay go up faster than men's, both measured in kroner and percentages.

For bank employees the average monthly salary increased a total of 4.6 per cent from September 1, 1995 to September 1, 1996, rising from NOK 19,988 to NOK 20,913. The monthly salary of women increased by NOK 907 or five per cent against NOK 960 or 4.4 per cent the year before.
