1  The figures in the table express the difference between the outdoor temperature and a room temperature at 17 degrees C. High figures in the table indicate cold years. Information on the temperature in Oslo, Kristiansand S, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø is the basis for Statistics Norway's calculations of the average figures for the whole country.
2  For the years before 1997, the difference between the outdoor- and room temperature was added up for days with an outdoor temperature of less than 11 degrees C in the autumn and 9 degrees C in the spring. From 1997, the difference is added up for all days, independant of the out door temperature. The normal degree day is with that higher than earlier.
3  The average for the country is calculated by weighting the number of degree days with the population in the different country parts. The number of degree days is weighted with the population figure in 1995 for the years after 1993, while the population for 1973 has been used for the previous years. By using the population for 1995, the normal degree day figure was changed from 3657 to 3608 in the period 1994-1997.
