Explanation of term
Twelve-month change
The twelve-month change expresses the percentage change in the index in the twelve preceding months. If the index rose from 117.8 in August 2007 to 123.1 in August 2008, then the twelve-month trend is +4.5 per cent. The twelve-month change is not the same as the annual change, which shows how much the index has gone up or down in a given calendar year.
