Explanation of term
Number employed
In relation to the registerbased employment statistics, where only a person's main job is counted, the relevant person can have more than one job at a time. For example, John Smith can work part-time in two different manufacturing companies and thereby be regarded as employed in two places within manufacturing, while the register-based employment statistics only regard him as employed in the job he works in most. The total number of employees will not therefore be directly comparable with the total of number of employees in other statistics. The employment figures in the structure statistics show an average of the number in a year.
