Vegard Skirbekk is interested in the estimation of mortality and fertility trends and in the causes and consequences of demographic change. His research focuses on social differentials in demographic behaviour and outcomes, age-variation in productivity, family formation processes, population dynamics and urbanisation, the demography of skills and identities as well as regional and national population projections.
Vegard Skirbekk has published in Science, Demography and Population and Development Review. His research has received widespread attention in media in a number of countries (including The New York Times and The Economist). Skirbekk's 2004 article on age and productivity ranks as one of the most cited articles ever in the field. He has acted twice as an expert advisor for the European Parliament.
