Min forskning er hovedsaklig knyttet til makroøkonomisk modellbygging og anvendt økonometri. Det siste har gjennom år omfattet både analyse av paneldata og tidsrekkeanalyse av makroøkonomiske data. I boken The Econometrics of Macroeconomic Modelling (utgitt på forlaget Oxford University Press i 2005) - som er et fellesarbeid med tre kollegaer - har vi gjort rede for et empirisk forskningsprogram for hvordan en økonomi som den norske kan beskrives i tall ved hjelp av statistiske metoder. Siden høsten 2005 har jeg fulgt dette programmet i arbeid med de makroøkonomiske modellene KVARTS og MODAG i Statistisk sentralbyrå
