Several elderly motorists die in car accidents in May


Twenty-six persons lost their lives in traffic accidents in May in Norway. This is 12 fewer compared to the same month last year, but is one more than the average for the five-year period 1991-1995. Twelve of those killed last month were behind the wheel. Half of them were over 64 years of age, while the comparative figure for May last year was two killed.

Compared to the same five-month period last year 10 more drivers in the age group over 64 were killed.

Traffic accidents have claimed 92 lives so far this year. This is 44 fewer than last year.

Four children under the age of 15 died in May traffic accidents, compared to none last year. From January to May this year, 11 children in this age group lost their lives. This is one more than in 1995 and average for the period 1991-1995.
