Cost index for road goods transport, April 2012

No change in total transport costs

The total cost index for road goods transport was unchanged from March to April 2012. Over the last 12 months the total costs have increased by 2.4 per cent.

From March to April 2012 the index for capital costs decreased by 0.8 per cent. Over the last twelve months this index has increased by 1.4 per cent.

Increase in fuel prices

The fuel index increased by 0.7 per cent during the last month. From April 2011 to April 2012 this sub-index has increased by 1.4 per cent.

Lower prices for tyres

The tyre index rose by 0.5 per cent from March to April 2012 due to price adjustments by some suppliers. Over the last twelve months this sub-index has increased by 4.7 per cent.

Higher administrative costs

Administration costs increased by 0.2 per cent last month. Over the last twelve months this sub-index has increased 2.6 per cent.

About the fuel index

The fuel index is based on prices obtained from a selection of retailers located throughout Norway. Surveys show that the development in these prices is very similar to the development in the contract prices for fuel supplied by the major distributors.

About the capital cost index

The capital cost index consists of depreciation and amortisation, interest costs and annual fees.
