Multiple instruments   Standard economic theory provides simple and clear advice of how cost efficiency may be attained in the presence of imperfect markets and externalities. However, industry interests, concerns for regional settlement, income distribution and public revenue aspects imply political conflicts. Recycling and natural resources   Recycling affects both extraction of new resources as well as the need for energy and inputs to production of new goods. To evaluate whether recycling is a cost-effective instrument, sources for market failure underlying recycling as a political instrument must be indentified. Sustainable development indicators (SDI) in the context of the precautionary principle   The project aims at strengthening the sustainable development indicators by establishing early warnings based on expert opinions on uncertainty and critical developments and the need for immediate action.
