A common theme in Halvorsen's research is micro econometric behaviour analysis in different areas. During the last years, her main areas of research has been household energy consumption and household recycling behaviour. She has also worked in areas of dental phobia treatment, distributional analysis and valuation studies based on stated preferences, which is the theme in Halvorsen's PhD dissertation. Another main field of research is the development of methods for aggregation of micro behaviour.
