Statistics Norway provides access to microdata for research purposes pursuant to § 2-5 of The Statistics Act of Norway and The Data Inspectorate’s decision of 16 March 2006.
Upon application data for research purposes can be loaned to approved institutions, i.e. institutions established pursuant to the Act relating to universities and university colleges and research institutions covered by Retningslinjer for statlig finansiering av forskningsinstitutt (guidelines for state financing of research institutions).
Other entities can apply for access to data from Statistics Norway to specific projects without having approval as a research institution, i.e. research projects:
Entities that are not on this list or not covered by the above exceptions but need data from Statistics Norway for research purposes, must apply to be approved before data can be loaned.
