NOK 17.8 billion in current account surplus

Norway had a current account surplus of NOK 17.8 billion in December 2004, compared with a surplus of NOK 21.7 billion in November 2004. In December 2003 the surplus came to NOK 18 billion.

Quarterly Balance of payments statistics

From the first quarter of 2005, the Norwegian Balance of payments statistics will be published on a quarterly basis. This is due to a change in the data collection system from a collection model based on bank settlements data to a system of quarterly direct reporting from enterprises.

The surplus in trade of goods and services amounted to NOK 17.3 billion in December 2004. The balance of goods ended at NOK 15.1 billion, while the balance of services ended at NOK 2.3 billion. In December 2003 the goods and services balance had a surplus of NOK 21.1 billion. The balance of goods decreased by NOK 3.3 billion from December 2003 till December 2004, while the balance of services decreased by NOK 0.4 billion.

The total value of exports increased by NOK 4.7 billion from December 2003 till December last year, while the total imports increased by NOK 8.5 billion.

Balance of income and current transfers. 2002-2004

The balance of income and current transfers is estimated at a surplus of NOK 0.4 billion for December 2004. The corresponding month in 2003, came to a deficit of NOK 3.1 billion.

Preliminary figures show that Norway's net external assets increased by NOK 40.7 billion in December 2004, and were estimated at NOK 1 096.4 billion at the end of the year.
