Norway and many other countries have implemented new guidelines from international organisations. The new guidelines significantly influence the figures, including the treatment of fellowship loans. Previously, these loans were treated on an assets/liabilities basis. The new principle is to treat them on a net basis based on whether the ultimate controlling parent is domestic or foreign. This means for instance that many of the loans previously recorded as debt will now be negative assets and vice versa.

Interests connected to these loans are treated the same way. As a result of these changes, the total investments in Norway are reduced compared to the former principle, and total positions and loan figures at the end of 2013 are not comparable to corresponding figures in previous years.

Equity capital in Norwegian direct investment abroad increased by NOK 84 billion in 2013 to NOK 1 211 billion at the end of the year. Equity capital in foreign direct investment in Norway amounted to NOK 733 billion at the end of 2013; an increase of NOK 51 billion.

There are no significant changes in income compared to previous years.
