9 out of 10 children in kindergarten

At the end of 2011, almost 282 700 children attended kindergarten. For children aged 1-5, 89.7 per cent attended kindergartens. This is an increase of 0.4 percentage points from 2010.

There were 5 600 more children in kindergarten compared to the previous year. For children aged 1-2 years, there was an increase of nearly 1 700, while the age group 3-5 years increased by nearly 3 800 children. In these age groups, there were 100 400 and 179 300 children respectively in kindergarten.

In 2011, the proportion of children aged 1-2 who attended kindergarten was 79.5 per cent; an increase of 0.7 percentage points from 2010. For children aged 3-5, 96.5 per cent attended kindergartens; the same level as the previous year.

At the end of 2011, almost 88 800 people were employed in kindergartens, and in total they worked 71 600 man-years. This was an increase of about 1 400 employees and man-years compared with 2010.
