As of 2015, all self-employed must submit tax return electronically. From the income year 2022 and on, all sole proprietorships are obliged to deliver a business information statement with their tax return. From this year and on, the statistics cover all sole proprietorships, including those who prior to 2022 were not obligated to dispatch an income statement due to low annual turnover. From 2021 to 2022, the total number of sole proprietorships persons thus increased substantially among those with main income from wages and public pensions and benefits.
