Labour Force Survey Increased share of men in the workforce From the 1st quarter of 2011 to the 1st quarter of 2012, the labour force participation among men rose by 1.2 percentage points. In this year’s first quarter, the share of men aged 15-74 participating in the labour force was 74.5 per cent. The corresponding share for women was 68.3 per cent, almost unchanged from the previous year.

 | Register-based employment statistics for immigrants More employed immigrants The number of employed immigrants increased by 23 700 from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the fourth quarter of 2010. Since the immigrant population also increased, the employment rate was almost unchanged at 61.6 per cent. In the population as a whole this rate fell slightly from 69.7 to 69.1 per cent.

Employment among short-term immigrants Decrease in employees on short-term stays The number of short-term immigrants decreased by 5 400 from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the fourth quarter of 2010. However, in the labour market this decrease was more than offset by the immigration of 26 300 employees in the same period.

Labour Force Survey, overtime Overtime equivalent to 68 000 full-time jobs In the second quarter of 2005, 21 per cent of full-time employees worked overtime. The figure is 24 per cent for men and 17 per cent for women. The amount of overtime equals 68 000 full-time jobs, or 4.7 per cent of all man-weeks by employees working full-time.
