Most men complete a degree in science
About 30 per cent of all men completing a tertiary degree during the academic year 2010/2011 completed in the field of natural sciences, vocational and technical subjects – or science. Among women, 8 per cent completed a degree in science. (22.05.2012)

More attending supplementary programme
The number of pupils attending the supplementary programme has increased strongly in recent years. In 2011, the number was 13 500 pupils, compared to 5500 in 2001 and 9000 in 2006. In total, participants in upper secondary education increased by 2 800 compared to the previous year. (09.05.2012)

Kindergarten fees up 0.5 per cent
Norwegian kindergarten fees rose by 0.5 per cent from August 2011 to January 2012. The rise in public kindergarten fees contributed most to the increase. (10.02.2012)

Geographical differences

As an average for OECD countries, 68 per cent of upper secondary school pupils completed their studies within the standard time. Around 81 per cent of the students successfully completed their studies two years after the stipulated time of graduation. (14.09.2011)

Increase in monthly price
The mean monthly prices for the national level continue to increase for all age groups. In ordinary kindergartens, the monthly price for 0-2 year-olds increased from NOK 14 522 in 2009 to NOK 15 062 in 2010. (28.06.2011)

Many non-western immigrants more educated than non-immigrants
The portion of highly educated is larger among immigrants from the Philippines, Poland, Russia and India than among the total population in Norway. Immigrants from Somalia, Pakistan and Thailand are worst off when it comes to educational attainment, and many women from non-western countries have little education or no schooling at all.
