Waste accounts for Norway
Major changes in landfilled waste
The total waste increased by 3 per cent last year. The amount disposed of at landfills has dropped substantially since 2007, and is at its lowest since 1995. On the other hand, the amount of contaminated soil and stones has increased. (14.12.2011)

Waste from building activities
1.54 million tonnes of waste from building activities
In 2010, 1.54 million tonnes of waste was generated by new constructions, rehabilitation and demolition activities<sup>1</sup> in Norway. Heavy building materials; mainly bricks and concrete, constituted about 40 per cent of the total waste generated. Mixed waste constituted 18 per cent, and asphalt and wood waste each made up 14 per cent of the total waste generated. (13.12.2011)

Large increase in waste incineration
Incineration of waste has more than doubled over the last 10 years. In 2010, around 1.28 million tonnes of waste were incinerated – an increase of 28 per cent compared to 2009. (13.12.2011)

Waste from service industries
Less waste in the service industries
The service industries generated almost 1.4 million tonnes of waste in 2010. This is 11 per cent less than in 2008. As much as 45 per cent of the waste originated in the domestic trade business. Almost half of the waste consisted of mixed waste. (12.12.2011)

Hazardous waste
More hazardous waste in 2010
A total of 1.2 million tonnes of hazardous waste were sent for approved treatment in 2010; up 14 per cent from the previous year. Of this, 450 000 tonnes were made up of oil-containing waste. Since 1999, the amount of hazardous waste has increased by 114 per cent. (12.12.2011)

Waste - StatRes
1 per cent of Norway’s waste amount
The Central government disposed of 89 200 tonnes of waste in 2008. Half of this arose from health and social activities. On average, each employee contributed 395 kg of waste in 2008. The service industries generated twice as much waste per employee than the Central government. (15.12.2009)
