Emissions of greenhouse gases Lower greenhouse gas emissions in 2011 The domestic Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions in 2011 amounted to 52.7 million tonnes of CO<sub>2</sub> equivalents. This is 2.3 per cent less than in 2010. Lower emissions from heating and oil and gas extraction have contributed most to the decline.

KOSTRA municipal wastewater: 177 km of sewage system renewed In 2010, 0.49 per cent, or 177 kilometres, of existing sewage pipeline system was renewed. Renewal of old pipelines was less than half the rate of installation of new wastewater pipelines, which was 1.22 per cent (441 kilometres). Total sewage pipelines are estimated at 36 100 kilometres.

Local environmental efforts in municipalities and county authorities Minor changes in number of permissions for motor traffic In 2010, Norwegian municipalities granted almost 13 900 new permissions for motor traffic on uncultivated areas and watercourses. In addition, nearly 11 400 permissions from previous years were still valid. The total number of valid permissions showed a small increase from the previous year.
