Price increases for road freight transport

The total index for road goods transport in the 1st quarter of 2015 was 1.7 per cent higher than the 1st quarter of 2014. Between the 4th quarter of 2014 and the 1st quarter of 2015, the increase was 0.7 per cent.

At a more detailed level, broken down by freight type, frozen or refrigerated goods and dry goods in bulk pull the index up compared with the same quarter last year, with growth of 4.5 and 3.1 per cent respectively. For petroleum products, other liquids or gases in bulk, mixed goods/container goods and other transportation in special vehicles, there was little or no change.

Noticeable price increase for 'Passenger air transport'

Prices in the industry group 'Passenger air transport' were 10.4 per cent higher in the 1st quarter of 2015 than the same quarter last year, but compared with the 4th quarter, prices decreased by 1.3 per cent. The price index for the industry group 'Passenger air transport' ended at 117.1 in the 1st quarter of 2015. The last time the price index was at this level was six years ago, when it reached 120.3 in the 4th quarter of 2008.

'Postal and courier activities' also saw price increase

The total index of 'Postal and courier activities' increased 3.8 per cent from the 4th quarter of 2014. During the last year, the increase was 4.0 per cent.

Rising prices in 'Storage and warehousing' and 'Cargo handling'

Prices of storage services increased by 2.4 per cent compared to the 1st quarter of 2014. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2014, the increase was 2.8 per cent. For 'Cargo handling', there was an increase of 2.9 per cent from the 1st quarter of 2014, while the increase was 2.1 per cent compared to the 4th quarter of 2014.

Indices associated with industry sub-groups of “Passenger air transport” were revised for the whole period in the posting of the 1st quarter of 2015. The revision used weighting that better represents the sample units’ distribution of turnover in the industry. The impact of the revision is greatest for the last two years.
