Road construction costs up

Road construction costs increased by 1.3 per cent from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2014. Material costs rose by 2.2 per cent, while labour and machinery costs increased by 1.0 and 0.6 per cent respectively in the same period.

The construction costs of open air road rose by 1.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2014. In the same period, the costs of rock tunnels and concrete bridges increased by 1.0 and 0.8 per cent respectively. From the third quarter of 2013 to the third quarter of 2014, the total road construction costs rose by 2.2 per cent.

Road maintenance costs increased by 1.2 per cent from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2014, and are 2.4 per cent higher than in the third quarter of 2013.
