Increased conversion of productive land
Norwegian municipalities permitted the transfer of 6 600 decares of cultivated land and 4 600 decares of cultivable land to non-agricultural use in 2012. The area of cultivated land transferred was almost the same as the previous year, while the area of cultivable land transferred increased by 700 decares in the same period.

A total of 11 200 decares of cultivated and cultivable land were transferred under the provision of the Land Act and the Planning and Building Act in 2012. About 70 per cent of the municipalities reported transferring areas under the provision of the Land Act in 2012, compared to 40 per cent of the municipalities under the Planning and Building Act. Transfers under the provision of the Planning and Building Act represented 82 per cent of the transferred areas.
About 29 per cent was transferred to public traffic areas, 26 per cent was transferred to residential areas and 16 per cent to business activity.
Land reclamation
The municipalities permitted land reclamation of 13 400 decares in 2012; a decrease of 2 500 decares from the year before.
