A total of 159 900 tonnes of meat from domestic animals were approved for human consumption during the first half of 2016; an increase of 4 per cent from the same period last year.

In total, 69 300 tonnes of pork, 47 600 tonnes of poultry, 39 200 tonnes of beef and veal and 3 600 tonnes of mutton and lamb were approved during the period. 

Compared with the first half of 2015, the production of meat from pig and poultry increased by 3 600 tonnes and 1 400 tonnes respectively. In the same period, the production of meat from cattle increased by 800 tonnes.
