More than 6 000 cervids killed by traffic

In the 2014/2015 hunting year, more than 6 000 cervids were killed by traffic. This is an increase of 5 per cent from the previous hunting year.

Registered mortality of cervids apart from regular hunting totalled 8 750. This represents an increase of 4 per cent compared to the previous hunting year. In total, 5 500 cervids were killed by a car and 650 by a train.

Roe deer accidents most common

Roe deer are particularly vulnerable, and almost 3 800 were killed by a motor vehicle and 130 by a train during the hunting year 2014/2015.

Killed by other reasons

In the 2014/2015 hunting season, the number of moose killed by other reasons was 1 300. The corresponding figure for roe deer and red deer was 690 and 470 respectively.
