Highest population growth in Akershus

The population is estimated to be 5 297 000 inhabitants as per 31 December, with a population growth of 38 500 or 0.7 per cent in 2017.

The preliminary seasonally adjusted quarterly national accounts figures (QNA) for the third quarter of 2017 confirm that the cyclical trough was reached about a year ago. Mainland GDP growth has now been higher than trend growth, estimated at just under 2 per cent annually, for three consecutive quarters.

Hazardous waste increasing faster than the economy (GDP)

A total of 1.48 million tonnes of hazardous waste was sent for approved treatment in 2016 – an increase of around 84 per cent compared to 2003. In contrast, the gross domestic product (GDP) and population have only increased by 23 and 15 per cent respectively in the same period.
