Fewer foreigners travelled by ferry
13 per cent fewer foreign passengers travelled by ferry in the 4th quarter 2002 compared with the 4th quarter 2001. The number of foreign passengers in the 4th quarter amounted to 237 933, a fifth of the total number of transported passengers.
A total of 993 391 Norwegian passengers travelled by ferry in the 4th quarter 2002, an increase of 1.3 per cent compared with the corresponding period in 2001. 1.23 million passengers were transported in the 4th quarter 2002, a decrease of 1.9 per cent compared with the 4th quarter 2001. Compared with the corresponding months in 2001, the number of passengers increased in October, but decreased in November and December.
More traffic in 2002 compared with 2001 and 2000
6.24 million passengers were transported on ferries to foreign countries in 2002. In 2001 the number was 6.03 million and 6.14 million in 2000. The increase from 2001 to 2002 constitutes 3.6 per cent. The number of Norwegian passengers increased by 5.6 per cent from 2001 to 2002, while the number of foreign passengers decreased by 1.1 per cent in the corresponding period.
