4 579 000 residents in Norway

The population growth in 2003 is estimated to be 26 700 persons. This is a reduction from the previous year when the population growth was 28 200. 4 579 000 persons are expected to be residents in Norway at the end of 2003

The population is estimated for the entire country, the counties and the municipalities. It is the first time this type of estimation is calculated for municipalities and counties. The population is calculated on information from the population register, using data on births, deaths, in- and out -migration until 1 December 2003. The population growth in December is calculated in the same way as the relative population growth was in December 2002. If the number of births, deaths and migrations will change essentially from December last year to December this year the population will vary in time with the reports. Due to this, the population for 1 January 2004 has to be seen as a estimate.
