4.6 per cent unemployment

Adjusted for seasonal variations, there were 127 000 unemployed persons in September. This corresponds to 4.6 per cent of the labour force.

Seasonally-adjusted figures from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) show that unemployment increased by 5 000 persons from June (average of May-July) to September (average of August-October). The increase is within the error margin of the LFS, but still in line with the development since May 2014. The unemployment was then at 3.2 per cent, and the seasonally-adjusted number of unemployed persons has increased by 40 000. The LFS shows that approximately 30 000 of these were over the age of 24.

The number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) increased by around 5 000 from June to September. This figure is also based on seasonally-adjusted figures and three-month averages.

Small changes in employment

The LFS shows that the seasonally-adjusted number of employed persons increased by 4 000 from June to September. In September, the employment rate was 68.0 per cent, down 0.1 percentage point from June. This is due to a lager increase in the number of resident persons aged 15-74 than employed persons.

The labour force remained almost unchanged at 71.3 per cent of the population aged 15-74.
