Unemployment 3.7 per cent

There were 100 000 unemployed persons in Norway in September, corresponding to 3.7 per cent of the labour force.

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment was 3.7 per cent of the labour force in September (average of August-October). Compared with June (average of May-July), this was up 0.3 percentage points – or 9 000 persons. This increase is within the error margin. By comparison, the number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) decreased by 1 000 during this period. This figure is also seasonally adjusted and based on a three-month average.

Stable employment

According to the LFS, the seasonally-adjusted number of employed persons increased by 7 000 from June to September – an increase which is within the error margin. From September 2013 to September 2014, the seasonally-adjusted number of employed persons increased by 20 000. The growth in employment was among those aged 25-74 years, while there was a decrease among those aged 24 years or younger.

In September 2014, the share of employed persons corresponded to 68.4 per cent of the population aged 15-74 years; down 0.4 percentage points from September 2013 and unchanged from June 2014.
