Healthy life years (HLY) is an indicator of expected health, and is calculated from data on mortality and sickness. HLY is calculated by looking at the proportion of the population who are healthy or sick in different age groups, and age-specific mortality rates. The state of being healthy is defined here as the absence of limitations/disabilities.
