The GWP value (Global Warming Potential) of a gas is defined as the cumulative impact on the greenhouse effect of 1 tonne of the gas compared with that of 1 tonne of CO₂ over a specified period of time. GWP values are used to convert emissions of greenhouse gases to CO₂ equivalents.
